The 200years old and the oldest of all Jain Temples in city, Dadawadi Karawan Jain Mandir’s  Pratishta Mahotsav Procession held here in city today. The two kilometre procession began at Tallgadda Jain Temple and concluded at Dadadwadi Karawan Jain Mandir at Karawan.  3000 Jains have participated in the procession. 

 

To beat the summer heat, the organisers have come with unique umbrellas.  They got 300 umbrellas especially designed for their women to participate in the procession without being affected by summer heat and sun light. The organisers have procued them at a cost of Rs 1.3 lakh as each of those designer umbrellas especially made for the purpose costed Rs 650/- each informed Ashok and Praveen Jain. These umbrellas especially stood out in the procession.

 

 

Another attraction was using drones to shower petals. Processions infact have become hitech. 

 

An instant Rangoli on the roads of the procession route was another major attraction.  More than 25 Instant Rangolis were drawn by Mahaveer Jain, a specialist especially flown in from Mumbai for the purpose. He has drawn on roads rangolis of 4x8 size in a minute with his hand.  The left long lasting impression about the event on the minds of the onlookers and people in surrounding areas.  I have sued 1.5 kilos of coloured sand to draw these rangolis, informed Mahaveer Jain, who has drawn well over 10,000 such Rangolis at various events across the country in his career spanning over 15years.  The biggest Rangoli I have ever drawn was 10,000 sft one at Jaisalmar.  I can draw Rangolis with my hand in just one minute. I can even draw blind foldedly, he said.  Mahaveer Jain eves out his living from Instant Rangoli.

 

The Jain Temples in city have rich history and Tradition. There are well over 20 Jain Temples in the city.  For 3 lakh Jains in city they have four 100 plus years of Jain Temples. They include After the Karwan Dadawadi Temple (200 years and above), Koti (140 years), Begum Bazar (190 years) and Tarlagadda (200 years) informed Surender Lunia of the community.

 

Festivals are a way for the Jains to reaffirm their identity as a group and are internal affairs informed Surender Lunia.

 

One of the most spectacular elements of Jain festivals is the procession – Yatra – also called chariot-procession or rath yatra.  Statues or pictures of Jain gurus in a small shrine are placed on top of a chariot and taken out. The chariot is decorated with flowers.

 

On 27th with Installation of four Jain deities will be held.  These include Jindat Surji, Manidhariji, Kushalguruji and Jinachandraji. Nearly 8000 people are expected to grace the occasion.

 

The new idol installation festival(Pratishta Mahotsav) will be culminated with  Dadaguriji Badi Puja to be held on 28th April, added Surender Lunia.

 

According to Surender Lunia, a Jain temple is the place of worship for Jains, the followers of Jainism.  The Karwan Jain Mandir is located in a sprawling 7 acres of land amidst the lap of the nature.  Though in the middle of the city, it has green environment surrounded by it.  It also has Function Hall named Kushal Vatika, which is let out for marriages. It has 20 rooms.  beautiful lawns and garden.  It also runs a home for the aged.  It is a rare for any temple to run a home for the aged. But, this temple has been doing great yeoman service for the aged, upto 40 can be accommodated in this home.

 

The both Telugu States have many Jain temples such as Jain Mandir, Warangal is the 2,000-year-old Jain temple of Lord Mahaveer and is a famous place of worship for Jains in the country. Amaravati Jain Teerth temple of Shri Padmaprabhu Bhagwan in Alirajpur village is also well known This temple is about 2000 years old.

 

Gudivada JainTeerth temple of Shri Parshwanatha Bhagwan is located in Gudivada village in Vijayawada - Machilipatnam route in Krishna district. The idol of the temple is said to be very old, belonging to the 8th century period. Shree Kulpakji Jain Temple the black-colored idol of Lord Bhagawan Adishvar, The Bhagwan Mahaveer 24th tirthankar idol is in Green Zed, a precious stone and this idol has no comparison in the whole world. And is said to belong to the 12 century AD and is a very attractive and unique of its kind.

 

The Jains have played a very important role in the society and contributed a lot. They are known for their charity works. The moral and intellectual influence of the Jain communities gives them a social importance greater than it would result from their mere numbers. They are not only among the businessmen and industrialists, many of the prominent authors, justices, administrators and politicians belong to the Jain community.
