Jio MAMI presented a special screening of Ritesh Batra’s ‘Our Souls At Night’ Starring Robert Redford, Jane Fonda

It was a star studded night at the Special Screening of Ritesh Batra's ‘Our Souls At Night’ at the preview of Jio MAMI 19th Mumbai Film Festival with Star. The screening was attended by Bollywood’s whos who including Siddharth Roy Kapur, Bhumi Pednekar, Radhika Apte and Saiyami Kher to name a few.

 

Ritesh Batra is widely known for his debut feature film ‘The Lunchbox’ starring Irrfan Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Nimrat Kaur, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2013 and won Rail d’Or.

 

‘Our Souls At Night’ is based on the novel of same name by Kent Haruf. It is a story of two widowed neighbors, played by Robert Redford and Jane Fonda, who develop an unexpected relationship in their small Colorado town. The film had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 1, 2017. 

 

Jio MAMI with Star, Creative Director, Smriti Kiran said, “Ritesh Batra is doing big things with quiet elegance. His films are a reflection of his personality. They speak of things that linger beyond the fleeting. There was no way that we would have missed the opportunity to screen his wonderful new film at MAMI. Very grateful to Netflix for letting us organize a special screening of the film in India. ‘Our souls at night’ is a brilliant precursor to the festival this year."

 

Excited about the special screening, Ritesh Batra, Director, ‘Our Souls at Night’ said, “It’s nice to be back home and I am excited to see what the people have to say about the movie here. ‘Our Souls At Night’ is a love story and love stories are made for Indians. I really wish the starcast were here, they are the most amazing artists and it was an honour to work with them. I am going to be at the MAMI Festival, and I am really excited to see what it has in store for us this year.”

 

Bollywood stars and fans of Ritesh’s work who attended the screening were Actor, Radhika Apte, who said, “ I loved Lunchbox, so I am excited and looking forward to Ritesh’s next film and I am also looking forward to attending MAMI and I am going to whatever little help I can in my own way as MAMI means a lot to me.”

 

Actor, Saiyami Kher, the first one to make an appearance on the red carpet, animatedly said “ I am a big fan of the three name – Jane Fonda, Robert Redford and Ritesh Batra. Ritesh always comes up with interesting subjects and I am looking forward to ‘Our Souls at Night’. I am also aware that this is a precursor to the MAMI Festival and Anurag Kashyap’s movie Mukkabaaz is going to open the Festival and I am definitely watching it and many more at the Festival.”

 

Siddharth Roy Kapur, Member MAMI Board of Trustees, said, “A subtle story about relationship. So authentic, real and heartfelt, I was really quite amazed. Very beautifully told by Ritesh.”

 

Saiyami Kher, said “Everytime I get out of a film that Ritesh makes it really touches my soul. Great performances by senior actors and Ritesh’s writing and direction is what I really liked the most.”

 

Bhumi Pednekar, said “I am so overwhelmed by the film. Ritesh is such a phenomenal filmmaker, the performances by these legends is brilliant. I’m trying to gather my emotions after watching this film.”
